Abu Dhabi, 10 November 2023:
The COP28 UAE Presidency has published its comprehensive guide to accessibility at COP28, which begins in under three weeks’ time.
The COP28 Presidency set out an early and clear aspiration to elevate, profile and support the leadership, decision-making, and resourcing of impacted groups which includes, but is not limited to, people of determination.
The information offers detailed guidance on accessible accommodation, transportation options, services like sunflower lanyards, wheelchair charging stations, and facilities for assistance dogs. It aims to support people with their planning and preparations for COP28 and ensure that everyone, regardless of their background or abilities, can participate fully in the conference.
In line with the principle of "Nothing About Us Without Us," the team actively engaged with people of determination and disability rights organizations both within the UAE and globally to co-create the accessibility and inclusion guidance for COP28.
This process involved the creation of accessibility guidelines and the development of user experiences that take into account gender, age, ability, and ethnicity on our shared human experience.Staff and volunteers have also received disability awareness training, developed and delivered by individuals with lived experience and their connections.
