COP28 Thematic Day 11 Summary
COP28 closed as it opened: with a pronounced focus on food, agriculture, and water, and filling gaps to 2030 in the context of climate change. The transformation of food systems is crucial to fulfilling the Paris Agreement, as they are highly vulnerable to climate impacts and responsible for 30% of greenhouse gas emissions, 80% of deforestation, and over 70% of freshwater use.
COP28 Thematic Day 9 Summary
Youth and children are at disproportionate risk of the harmful impacts of climate change but are systematically excluded from shaping climate policy that impacts their daily lives and future. For the first time in the history of COPs, Youth, Children Education and Skills Day brought children, youth, and educators to the center of COP, strategically leveraging their energy and inspiration to accelerate climate action.
COP28 Thematic Day 7 Summary
Cities are estimated to be responsible for 75% of greenhouse gas emissions and tackling climate change alongside urbanization, transport, and built environment is key to meeting the Paris Agreement.
COP28 Thematic Day 6 Summary
The challenge is clear.
The Global Stocktake (GST) technical synthesis report released in September 2023 highlighted the rapidly-closing window to reduce emissions by 43% by 2030 compared to 2019 levels for a 50% chance to limit warming to 1.5°C.
